Some members brought entire police force against people

Says DMP chief

FE REPORT | Sunday, 25 August 2024

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan said on Saturday that a handful of unprofessional and ambitious police members brought the entire police force against the people during the recent movement to unseat the Sheikh Hasina-led regime.
He, however, said that it would take some time to make the police force fully functional again.
Mr Mainul Hasan made the comments while addressing a press briefing at DMP media centre in the capital.
He said that those who (police personnel) showed unprofessional attitude during the recent student-mass uprising against the Sheikh Hasina government would be identified and brought to the book.
He also said that many high-ups of the police force have been on the run.
Mr Mainul Hasan said that from now on DMP would not function with police personnel who belong to a particular district rather it (police force) would work absolutely with the professional police personnel.
The DMP commissioner further said that they were also working to recover illegal arms used by the men of Awami League and activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League to brutally suppress the student-mass uprising.
Mr Mainul Hasan said that 22 police stations out of 50 in the capital were burnt during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
He said that many police members were killed and wounded during the movement and due to this reason many police personnel are still panicky.
