CHITTAGONG, Jul 4: Some private inland container depots (ICD) have been defying the directives of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) for long, sources said.
Charges are even realised twice from the exporters and their representatives for the same work in some private ICDs.
The situation is extremely exasperating to exporters, including garment manufacturers, sources added.
Sources further said most of these private ICDs are not well-equipped with adequate working forces, equipment and infrastructural facilities.
Following different reform measures adopted for the CP in cooperation with the Joint Forces since the promulgation of the State of Emergency millions of taka have been saved so far by different business organisations, including the port users.
But it is regrettable that the port users are still in the clutches of the private ICDs. Excess money is realised in the name of stuffing and landing charges separately for the same work at the depots defying the CPA directives.
As all this has created concern among the country's business community, the BGMEA is considering the issue to be taken up by responsible quarters.
