Son arrested for ‘killing mother’, arms recovered in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 18: Mainul Islam, 29, who allegedly shot his mother to death in the Patiya area in Chattogram, has been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7).
The elite force also recovered the arms that was used for killing from his possession. A team of RAB-7 arrested him from the Dohajari area in the district on Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel MA Yousuf, Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-7, informed this at a press conference held at its Chandgoan camp on Thursday afternoon.
He said, "Mainul, son of former Patiya Municipality mayor Shamsul Alam Master, has been leading indiscipline life since his early age and 8 cases were filed against him for different criminal activities."
"His family was annoyed with his activities and sent him abroad, but, he was sent back to the country for his criminal activities," MA Yousuf, adding that after the demise of his father over a month ago he got involved in a feud with his mother and Australia expatriate sister for the share of the wealth his father left behind.
CO of RAB-7 also said, "His mother and sister went to the bank for learning about the process of withdrawing the money deposited in the account of his father Shamsul Alam Master."
"Learning about the incident of going to the bank, Mainul became angry suspecting that they were taking all his father's money and got involved in a altercation with them on July 16," the CO of RAB-7 said adding that at one stage of altercation he shot his mother dead.
