Sonali Bank achieves only 40pc agri-loan disbursement target

NILPHAMARI, Oct 20: Sonali Bank of the district disbursed only 40 per cent of its targeted agri-loan in the last (2006-07) fiscal year.
A total of 10 branches of the bank disbursed Tk 27.06 million among the farmers as agriculture loan against its target of Tk 54.15 million in the fiscal year.
When asked about such poor disbursement, one of the officials of the bank told the FE that the field level growers of the district had no requirement for loan and for that they failed to achieve their target.
Out of the disbursement target, Tk 3.50 million was separately allotted for the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB), but the BRDB also failed to disburse the entire amount.
While asked about the failure, another official of bank said the BRDB failed to get the sanctioned amount as the authorities concerned failed to submit requisite papers as per banking rules and regulations.
