Sonali Bank, B'Baria zone earns Tk 60.90m

Brahmanbaria, June 20: Sonali Bank Limited (SBL), Brahmanbaria zone earned a net profit Tk 60.90 million in the period ended May 31of the current year.
The profit came due to the largest state-owned bank's increased lending in trading, small and medium enterprise (SME) and efforts made by the field officials, Sonali Bank officials said.
The bank collected a total of Tk 5849.10 million as deposits in the zone. It also mobilised Tk 1631.30 million foreign remittances during the same period.
The bank also achieved a great success in recovering outstanding loans, particularly classified loans in the same period with a collective efforts.
The bank's loan disbursement areas included production of paddy, wheat, potato, ginger, turmeric, maize, mustard, chili and vegetables, poverty alleviation, poultry, dairy farms, and fish hatchery, agro-based industry along with modern agro-machinery.
Meanwhile, the Brahmanbaria zone of the bank held the half-yearly review meeting of 2010 at local Sonali bank Principal Office Auditorium Friday.
SBL General Manager (GM) for Chittagong divisional office, Didar Md Abdur Rob gave directives to the participants as the chief guest while inaugurating the meeting.
SBL Deputy General Manager (DGM) and Zonal Head for Brahmanbaria Seikh Altaf Hossain presided over the function and delivered the address of welcome.
SBL Branch Managers, Officers and staffs of twenty-three branches of Brahmanbaria zone and journalists were present at the function.
The meeting reviewed success and breakdown performances against the business target of every branch achieved during the month of January to May of 2010 calendar year.
Mr Didar Md Abdur Rob, in his inaugural speech, laid emphasis on ensuring the banking services and developing working environment all the branches. He suggested the Branch Mangers and officers for increasing the loan disbursement to agro-based fields.
He stressed on further improving the overall performance of the bank and urged upon for increasing the deposit, current loan and bank profit.
Besides, he instructed the branch managers for recovering the classified loan cent percent within current year.
The chief guest urged branch managers and officers to pursue the clients for deposits, recover outstanding loans and disburse new loans.
He also said the bank has adopted some multipurpose work plans to make credit programmes, which are being implemented at the grassroots level, more easy.
