Sonali Bank branch manager among 8 more held

Police in a drive on Sunday arrested eight more people, including the branch manager, in connection with the burglary of Tk 3.25 million from a branch of Sonali Bank at Adamdighi upazila in Bobgra district. The arrestees are branch manager Shamsuddin Sharif, cashier Ajharul Islam, security guard Ruhul Amin, welding factory owner Abdul Latif and four carpenters – Nazrul Islam, Shariful Islam, Wahed Ali and Mridul. Police arrested two guards of Sonali Bank Adamdighi branch, and an employee and the furniture shop owner suspecting their involvement in the incident on Saturday. Meanwhile, police on Saturday night recovered Tk 1.72 lakh from the tunnel which the burglars dug to loot money from the branch. Manager of the bank branch Shamsuddin Sharif said the burglars abandoned the money while fleeing with the looted money through the tunnel. After searching the tunnel police recovered the money, he said. Deputy General Manager of Sonali Bank Bogra zone Abdus Salam filed a case with Adamdighi police station against some unknown people in this connection, according to UNB.
