FE Report
The government on Thursday cancelled the contract of Sonali Bank's Board of Directors Chairman Kazi Baharul Islam and replaced him with Professor AHM Habibur Rahman.
Mr Rahman, a former teacher at the Economics Department of Dhaka University, now serves at Prime Asia University, Dhaka.
The Ministry of Finance (MoF) in separate office orders made the cancellation and the new appointment effective from Thursday. The appointment to the new Board chairman has been given for three years, the orders said.
In September last, the government re-appointed Kazi Baharul Islam to Sonali Bank as chairman of the largest state-owned commercial bank after he completed three years in the same bank as chairman. The re-appointment, however, had said his tenure would be valid until the period before issuing further order.

The MoF on December 21 last appointed 31 directors to seven state-owned banks (SoBs) for three years to fill up the long- vacant seats in their boards.
The new directors who have got appointments to Sonali Bank are Md Nazibar Rahman, columnist Shekhar Datta, businesswoman Mrs Salima Ahmed, former joint secretaries of the government Md Mahbub Hossain, Shaheb Ali Mirdha and Kazi Tariqul Islam, former Sonali Bank managing director Md Enamul Hoq Chowdhury and Research Director of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies Dr. Zaid Bakht.
