Sonali Bank management has suspended the manager and the cashier of its branch at Adamdighi in Bogra district over the burglary of Tk 3.1 million from the branch, says an official. Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Sonali Bank (Bogra Zone) Abdus Samad said that manager Shamsuddin Sharif and cashier Ajharul Islam were temporarily suspended on Monday afternoon. The suspension came a day after they were transferred to the bank’s principal office in Bogra. The amount was taken away from the branch by digging a 30-feet tunnel from a nearby furniture shop into the vault of the bank. The bank staff came to know about the heist on Saturday as the branch was closed on Friday. DGM Abdus Samad filed a case with the Adamdighi Police Station on that night. Police have so far arrested a dozen people for their alleged involvement with the burglary. Of them, four have been freed after interrogation. A Bogra court on Monday remanded the remaining eight people for five days each in police custody for interrogation, according to a news agency.
