ACC assistant director Bahadur Alam quizzed Sonali Bank managing director Pradip Kumar Dutta and Abul Maksud Mohammd Farhad, brother of the chief whip, for one and a half hours respectively at the ACC head office, sources at the commission said.
According to the sources, Patuakhali Jute Mill, now owned by chief whip ASM Feroz, took a loan of Tk 12 million from Sonali Bank in 1985 and rescheduled it violating the banking rules and got about Tk 130 million waived in collusion with the bank's board of directors.
Talking to reporters after the interrogation, Mohammd Farhad denied his involvement in the loan scam and claimed that he has been asked to face the interrogation as part of an effort to harass him politically.
