Sonar Bangla to make history

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

Bangladesh is poised to be part of history with thousands of people singing the national anthem in chorus.
‘Lakho Konthe Sonar Bangla’ (Sonar Bangla in lakhs of voices) would be sung on Independence Day at the National Parade Square  Wednesday, according to a news agency.
On May 6 last year, the Sahara India Pariwar had set a record in the Guinness Book by arranging the singing of the Indian national anthem by 121,653 people.
Bangladesh is just a few hours away from surpassing that feat by getting a far larger body of people to sing the Bangladesh national anthem.
‘Amar Sonar Bangla Ami Tomai Bhalobashi’ (My Golden Bengal, I Love You) had been chosen as the country's national anthem in a mass rally at Dhaka’s Paltan ground on March 3, 1971, two days after the ‘Kendriya Sangram Committee’ of Swadhin Bangla was formed.
The song was first sung as the national anthem at an oath-taking ceremony of the provisional government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on April 17, 1971 in Mujibnagar.
