Sound pollution serious threat to public health in Tangail

TANGAIL, May 26: Sound pollution is posing a serious threat to the public health in different parts of the district town and upazila head quarters. Local people have complained that the problem has intensified during the recent years with the high volume loud speakers in audio cassette shops and blowing of horns of heavy vehicles in the residential areas from morning to late night.
A number of' microphones are seen blaring out in different areas of the town mainly thana para. Adalat para, Zilla Sadar Road, Momenshahi Road, Betka, this all areas are mostly residential area, sound pollution creating so many problems for the dwellers they added.
Some dwellers have complained that the pollution in some areas in the district has already crossed the tolerable limit and has taken a toll on inhabitants.
The problems has intensified in recent years with the noise of loud speakers and hydraulic horns. Experts said this kind of sound pollution causes different type of mental and physical diseases including heart diseases, headache, insomnia, hearing difficulties high blood pressure, hypertension of the aged people and dangerously hampers children's growth.
Tangail district police has already deployed the traffic police at every traffic point of the town to control the traffic jam. If the authorities direct these traffic police to check sound pollution also, it will be easy to control the sound pollution.
