South Africa beat Ireland by a huge 86 runs in a Group-A match of the ICC Women's World Twenty20 at Sylhet Stadium Saturday, reports UNB.
Chasing South Africa's 165 runs, Ireland folded their innings cheaply at 79 runs in 15.1 overs.
A 63-stand between Chloe Tryon and Suné Luus and 57-run partnership between Lizelle Lee and Dane van Niekerk helped to seal South Africa' s win against Ireland.
After the early fall of opener Ireland opener Clare Shillington (1) in the 5th delivery of the innings very first over, Mary Waldron pairing with skipper Isobel Joyce carried the team total to 42 for 2 in 8.3 overs.
Mary Waldron scored 33 runs off 30 balls featuring 7 boundaries and was stamped by Trisha Chetty off a Marcia Letsoalo delivery.
Skipper Isobel Joyce made 15 runs off 22 balls with a four while Melissa Scott-Hayward added 14 runs from 10 deliveries also featured a four.
Then, Ireland lost their wickets in a hurry.
Jennifer Gray (6), Louise McCarthy (5) and Elena Tice (4) were the other countable scorer for Ireland.
Shabnim Ismail and Dane van Niekerk claimed three wickets each for 5 and 10 runs respectively while Marcia Letsoalo bagged two wickets for 23 runs and Marizanne Kapp took one wicket conceding 8 runs.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, South Africa Women's team posted a challenging total 165 runs for 5 in stipulated 20 over.
In the opening stand, Lizelle Lee pairing with Dane van Niekerk made 57 runs in 10.2 overs before Niekerk was caught by Kate McKenna off an Eimear Richardson delivery.
Opener Lizelle Lee scored 43 runs off 40 balls with five boundaries and an over boundary and was clean bowled by skipper Isobel Joyce, at 72 for 2 in 13.2 overs.
In the 5th wicket stand, Chloe Tryon and Suné Luus built another useful partnership of 63 runs in 3 overs, to carry the team total from 102 to 165 for 5 at the end.
Chloe Tryon quick fired an unbeaten 35 runs form 12 deliveries with three fours and three six.
Suné Luus also quick fired 29 runs off 10 balls with six fours before she was fell victim of run out by Elena Tice.
Dane van Niekerk added 25 runs off 35 balls with two fours and a six.
Two down Marizanne Kapp made 18 runs while skipper Mignon du Preez added 14 runs.
Amy Kenealy, Isobel Joyce, Elena Tice and Eimear Richardson took one wicket each for 26, 26, 32 and 44 respectively, in their 4 overs spell.
