Southeast Bank introduces scholarship for poor, meritorious students

Southeast Bank Foundation arranged a program recently at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city to distribute scholarship money amongst the poor but meritorious students of different schools and colleges.
As a part of corporate social responsibility, Southeast Bank Foundation distributed scholarship among 490 students of which 230 are college students and 260 are school students.
Each college student received Tk.22000 and each school student received Tk.8500 as scholarship money in advance for the next one year. Total scholarship money amounted to Tk.67,49,500.
The scholarship to the recipients will continue in future depending on their results.
Dr Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank, was the chief guest and Alamgir Kabir, FCA, Chairman of Southeast Bank Limited was the special guest in the programme.
It was also attended by Ragib Ali, Vice Chairman and former Chairman, Azim Uddin Ahmed, Director and former Chairman, Mrs. Duluma Ahmed, Syed Shahid Ali, M A Ahad, Mrs. Sirat Monira, Abdul Hye, Dr. Zaidi Sattar, A.H.M. Moazzem Hossain, Directors, Mahbubul Alam, Managing Director, Akikur Rahman and Ruhel Shahid Ali, Sponsors of the Bank. Recipients of the scholarship attended the program accompanied by their guardians and teachers.
Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank, distributed the scholarship money amongst the recipients. In this thought provoking speech, he highly appreciated the CSR activities of Southeast Bank Limited. He expressed conviction that the fate of poor people of the country will improve significantly if all the Banks and Financial Institutions get involved and spend substantial amount of money in CSR activities especially in education expansion, poverty alleviation, social upliftment, environment protection healthcare etc. He made it clear that the CSR activities of the Banks and Financial Institutions will continue to be monitored from Bangladesh Bank. He advised to the students to utilize this scholarship money judiciously and to build their career through hard work and perseverance.
Alamgir Kabir, FCA, Chairman of the Bank, in his speech, narrated the future CSR programs of the Bank which include higher allocation of fund for CSR activities, continuity and expansion of scholarship, upgrading the selected schools with computers, books for library, science apparatus, daily English newspapers and English teachers for expansion of quality English education in schools.
Ragib Ali, Vice Chairman and Azim Uddin, Director of the Bank also spoke in the function wishing the scholarship recipients a bright future and success in life. Mahbubul Alam, Managing Director of the Bank delivered the concluding speech while Mrs. Ayesha Shireen Rahman, Project Director of the Foundation delivered address of welcome in the function.
