SYDNEY, Aug 20 (Agencies): Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati on Sunday won the Golden Ball for the best player at this year's Women's World Cup after her side beat England 1-0 in the final.
The versatile 25-year-old Barcelona star had a phenomenal tournament, playing in every game and was a cornerstone of Jorge Vilda's side.
"I don't have the words. I am so proud, we had a great tournament," Bonmati told the BBC.
The FIFA panel also chose Spain's Salma Paralluelo - who scored goals in the quarter-final and semi-final - as the tournament's most impressive youngster.
"Salma is a player with an enormous potential. And she's not reached her best yet," Spain coach Jorge Vilda said.
"She's a very young player who has been training one year in football specifically, and the best of Salma we'll see it in the future. Now she's excellent, but in the future, it's going to be much more."
England's hugely impressive goalkeeper Mary Earps, who saved a penalty in Sunday's final, won the Golden Glove while the best young player award went to teenage Spanish striker Salma Paralluelo.
The Manchester United keeper saved a penalty from Jenni Hermoso in the final where she was at her best again.
The Golden Boot award for tournament top scorer went to Japan's Hinata Miyazawa who scored five goals before her side's quarterfinal exit to Sweden.
Miyazawa succeeds Rapinoe, who last time edged out compatriot Alex Morgan and England’s Ellen White by virtue of her assists and a goal haul scored in fewer minutes than Morgan’s.
With 10 goals at the inaugural Women’s World Cup in 1991, Michelle Akers holds the record for the most goals by a player at a single Women’s World Cup tournament.
