Speaker Hafiz Uddin's wife passes away in Singapore

President, PM, others condole

Dilara Hafiz, wife of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, passed away at a hospital in Singapore on Saturday, report agencies.
She was 78.
She breathed her last at Singapore General Hospital at 1:29 pm (Singapore time), said BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
Dilara is survived by husband, one son, one daughter, grandchildren and numerous well-wishers to mourn her death.
He said Dilara's first namaz-e-janaza will be held at 11:00 am tomorrow (Monday) at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, while the second janaza will be held after Johr prayers at the central mosque in Dhaka Cantonment.
She will be laid to rest at Banani Military Graveyard, Sayrul added.


Dilara Hafiz served as the principal of Eden Mohila College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College for different terms.
She also served as the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin expressed his profound shock and sorrow at her death.
In a condolence message, the President prayed for eternal peace of her departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
The nation will remember with gratitude the outstanding contribution of the late Dilara Hafiz in the field of country's education, the President added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also expressed profound shock and sorrow at her death.
In a condolence message, the premier said late Dilara Hafiz was a distinguished educationist and social worker.
"With her death, the nation has lost a noble educationist," added Tarique Rahman.
Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam and Members of Parliament, amomg others, also expressed deep shock at her death.
