Speaker off to India for Modi\\\'s oath taking ceremony

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday left Dhaka for New Delhi to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as India’s new Prime Minister on Monday. Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Senior Secretary Ashraful Makbul and other high officials concerned were present at the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport to see her off, an official release said today. During the 4-day visit, Dr Shirin is likely to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and newly-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Speaker is likely to return home on May 28. India on May 21 invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or her designated representative to attend the oath-taking ceremony at Modi’s request. The Speaker is going to attend the function as the Prime Minister is now in Japan on a 4-day official visit, according to UNB.
