Speaker receives hony doctorate from Essex

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has received honorary doctorate degree from the University of Essex, UK. Participating in the Graduation Ceremony 2014 held on the eve of its 50th anniversary, Dr Sharmin on Wednesday received the degree from Pro-Chancellor of the University David Boyle. The University of Essex awarded her the honorary degree recognising her significant work and success both as a campaigner for women’s rights and for becoming the first ever woman Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, according to a message received in Dhaka on Thursday. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Anthony Forster and Prof Sheldon Leader, Director, Essex Business and Human Rights Project, among others, were present at the function, according to a news agency.
