Speaker stresses economic emancipation of womenfolk

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday underscored the need for giving training to women on income-generating activities with a view to making them self-reliant, reports UNB.
"Opportunities have to be given to women to flourish their talent. It is not possible to establish women rights without economic emancipation. All have to work together to establish equality between male and female through economic emancipation," she said.
The Speaker said this while addressing a programme organised by Bangladesh Police Women Affairs Association at Rajarbagh Police Lines Telecom Auditorium in the city.
Women play role in social change. Their activities help the society to take it forward, said the Speaker adding " We have to take steps to recognise women's labour in agriculture and household works. Not only but applying laws, women rights have to be ensured by bringing positive changes in social values. We have to be more conscious regarding women's equality, leadership and empowerment."
Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said it is not possible to achieve the overall development of the country without the development of women.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) has participated in the oath-taking ceremony for 'enlightenment, against darkness' at the Central Shaheed Minar with a commitment to establish equal rights for women and opportunity at all tiers and levels of society, reports UNB.
'WE CAN Alliance to End Domestic Violence arranged the event while BWCCI expressed solidarity with the congregation by lighting candle in the first hours of March 8 on International Women's Day.
Sate Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki was present as the chief guest.
BWCCI President Sangita Ahmed, BWCCI Board of Directors along with members and secretariat staff also joined the programme.
