Speakers call for boosting milk production

GAIBANDHA, Dec 19 (BSS): Speakers at a function here Sunday stressed the need for boosting production of milk to meet the demand of nutrition and change the socio-economic condition of the milk producers along with other service providers. "Milk production can be increased to a great extent if cows are fed molasses and urea mixed straw and Napier grass properly. Besides, artificial insemination can also play an important role in getting healthy calves and desired milk from the cows," they said. They made the comments in the inaugural session of a four- day Rural Commerce Fair on the premises of Asaduzzaman Girls' School and College here in the afternoon to focus rural technology and the chain that are involved in market system of milk sub sector. With the technical support of Practical Action Bangladesh SKS Foundation, a local organization, organized the fair under Making Markets Work for Small Holder Farmers and Rural Producers Projects funded by European Union. District Livestock Officer Dr. M. Abdul Gafur attended the function as the chief guest and Sadar Upazila Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Abdus Samad and project officer of Practical Action Bangladesh M. Mizanur Rahman were present as the special guests. With M. Habibur Rahman, coordinator of the foundation, in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by executive director of Palli Agragati Sangstha Suruz Haque Liton and market development facilitator M. Mokaddes Ali. Later, the guests formally inaugurated the fair by cutting red tape and also went round the stalls of the fair.
