Speakers for taking effective steps to reduce road accidents

Speakers at a walkathon urged the government to take effective steps to reduce road accidents which claim many lives every year in the country, reports UNB.
They said that a large number of people are killed in road crashes in the country every year while most of the accidents occur due to traffic rules violation, unskilled drivers and plying of faulty and unfit vehicles on the roads.
Families United Against Road Accident (FUARA), a voluntary organisation, organised the walkathon view a view to creating awareness among the people against road accidents.
The walkathon began from in front of the National Press Club in the city Friday morning and ended at Azimpur after parading different roads in the city. Hundreds of people from all strata took part in the walkathon.
Advocate Tarana Halim, MP, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA) Secretary General Dr Abdul Matin, Teacher of Sher-e- Bangla Agriculture University Prof Nazrul Islam, Chairman of Paribesh Bauchao Andolan Abu Naser Khan and FUARA Convenor Ekram Ahmed, among others, addressed the walkathon.
Addressing the walkathon, Advocate Tarana Halim said road accidents have been occurring all over the country due to violation of traffic rules.
She stressed on the training of the drivers aiming at reducing road accidents.
