Speakers for upholding democratic values

Speakers at a function in the city recently made a passionate call for all to uphold democratic values and build a strong, prosperous Bangladesh free from exploitation and conflict, reports UNB. They made the appeal at a children's cultural competition organized by Amra Kuri, a national juvenile organisation, at Bangladesh Shishu Academy, making the 40th anniversary of the Victory Day. Some 500 children took part in the competition featuring paintings, recitation, patriotic songs and folk music. The winners will be awarded prizes on December 25. The speakers stressed the need for getting out of the vicious cycle in which politics is caught up. UNB chairman and Amra Kuri adviser Amanullah Khan inaugurated the event as the chief guest with Amra Kuri chairman Mustaq Ahmed Liton in the chair. Secretary general of All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), Bangladesh Parliament Shishu Shil, deputy secretary of Railways Ministry, reputed author Dr Mohammad Amin, chairman of Excellent IT Solutions Ferdous Rahman Polash and secretary general of Amra Kuri Ferdousi Ara Bannya, among others, spoke on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Amanullah Khan recalled the historic victory won at a great cost that led to the birth of an independent, sovereign Bangladesh with a clear vision and mission.
