Speakers for youths' participation in social and dev activities

Speakers at a programme on Wednesday suggested ensuring young people's participation to various social and development activities to make them more effective and purposeful.
They also called for providing the young people with suitable platforms to ensure the best use of their creativity, strength and possibility.
They made the observations at the inaugural ceremony of daylong National Youth Conference 2019 with the theme of 'young people leading transformation', held at the Bangla Academy Auditorium organised by ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB).
Novelist and journalist Anisul Hoque, a football coach of the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP)--the national sports institute of the country-Jaya Chakma and Country Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Bangladesh Aktar Uddin attended opening session, among others.
Country Director of the AAB Farah Kabir moderated the discussion.
In his speech, Mr Aktar Uddin said one-thirds of the country's population are now young people aged below 30, whose present and future role is very crucial for the nation's development.
"We must integrate our young people to different activities to achieve our development agenda," he said.
In her speech, Jaya Chakma talked about the challenges she faced to set her career as a footballer.
"You might have some shortcomings which appear to be obstacle, but you must work hard and believe yourself to achieve what you want to become," said Ms Jaya who is also the first Bangladeshi female football referee.
She also said there is no shortcut to success.
Anisul Hoque underscored the need for self motivation, adaptability and hard working tendency among the youths.
A photo book exposing the activities of ActionAid Bangladesh involving youths was also unveiled at the conference.
Over 500 participants comprising youth delegates, national level policy influencers, sports personalities, development practitioners and activists attended the daylong event.
