Speakers laud Muhith's role on 85th birthday

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has always been a supporter of rule of law, political influence-free bureaucracy and democratic values, distinguished speakers said on Thursday.
Speaking at a book publication ceremony on the senior minister's 85th birthday, they opined that the activities and thoughts of A M A Muhith for the country have made him a respected and acceptable personality to all.
The eminent citizens also said Mr Muhith has made contributions to the country's politics, economy and administrative system throughout his career as bureaucrat, politician and social activist.
He always raised voice for reform in politics and administration, they added.
The book publication ceremony was held at World Literature Centre (Bishwo Shahitto Kendro - BSK) in the capital.
A book of the minister titled "Shongkot O Shujog" (Crisis and Opportunities) was launched at the programme. Its publisher, Somoy Prokashon, organised the event.
The book is a collection of 44 articles written from 1994 to 2008, which shed light on different political and economic phenomena of different governments.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman, BSK founder Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, eminent writer Syed Manzoorul Islam, historian Muntasir Mamun, essayist and researcher Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin, former BGMEA president Atiqul Islam, economist Abul Barakat, and Somoy Prokashon proprietor Farid Ahmed, also spoke at the programme.
