Speakers list govt\\\'s moves to create women-friendly environ for uplift

RAJSHAHI, Mar 11 (BSS): Forty grassroots level women, including five in divisional level, were accorded 'Joyeeta Reception' at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Rajshahi on Wednesday. They were successful women in five different sectors.
Rajshahi divisional administration organised the function with the association of ministry of women and children affairs and directorate of women affairs.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, and Akter Jahan, MP, attended and addressed the function as chief and special guests respectively while Helaluddin Ahmed, Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi, presided over the function.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Pro-VC of Rajshahi University Prof Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, District Women Affairs Officer of Rajshahi Shahnaj Begum and social worker Shaheen Akter Rainy.
The speakers said government has taken various initiatives to create women-friendly atmosphere in the country so that the women can play an important role for country's socio-economic development.
Women were titled Joyeeta (a Bengali word for winning women). Joyeeta Onneshone Bangladesh - a government initiative introduced in 2009 - has had a tremendous impact on the society. Grassroots women have responded well to the initiative, showing a positive indicator of women's empowerment, they said.
The government has taken different initiatives to create women-friendly atmosphere in the country so that the women can play an important role for country's socioeconomic development, the awarded Joyeetas acknowledged.
