Speakers stress mushroom, palm oil production for poverty reduction

Speakers at a seminar titled "Rural Roads Maintenance & Employment" stressed Monday on the production of mushroom, palm oil and revitalisation of jute sector for effective poverty alleviation.

Advisor for local government, textiles and jute ministries, M Anwarul lqbal was the chief guest of the seminar presided over by LGED chief engineer, Shahidul Hassan. Jute and textiles secretary Abdur Rashid Sarker was the special guest.

Iqbal said cooperation from all quarters is needed for eradicating poverty. The government has taken measures for improving the conditions of the jute industries and create new employment opportunities.

The advisor further said, cultivation of mushroom and production of palm oil could be made possible in the country through creation of mass awareness and making the products cost effective.

Abdur Rashid Sarker in his speech hoped that jute would regain its past glory.

Project director of Mushroom Development Project Sheikh Md Ruhul Amin presented a keynote paper on 'Development of Mushroom Cultivation in Bangladesh and Poverty Reduction'. Project director of Bangladesh Palm Oil Development Project, Mr. Saif Ahmed presented another paper on the project activities.
