Special study-team to explore trade potentials of Uttara EPZ sought

NILPHAMARI, Jul 1: Local people called for constituting a special study-team for exploring trade potentials of Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) of the district.
Sources said despite having investment-friendly atmosphere in Uttara EPZ, even after expiry of seven years of its establishment, the EPZ is still at its budding stage.
However, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Ashraf Abdullah Yousuf, in a recent meeting held at Rangpur, said necessary steps are being taken to make the Uttara EPZ more functional.
At present out of six industries, only two are in operation and the rest are in the process.
When contacted, an Uttara EPZ official said supply of gas through pipe-line is a must for making the EPZ operational.
He said implementation of Chilhati landport is also needed to woo the foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Uttara EPZ.
