Specific allegations against subordinate judges to be dealt with: CJ

Chief Justice (CJ) ABM Khairul Haque urged lawyers, litigants and rights watchdogs to come up with specific allegations against subordinate judges who are tainted with dishonesty in order to free the judiciary from corruption, reports UNB.
"I'm ready to look into any specific allegation for taking proper action and I can assure you that no such allegation would go unattended," the Chief Justice said while inaugurating a workshop at CIRDAP auditorium in the city Saturday.
Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), a rights watchdog, organised the workshop on 'Establishing Justice in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT): Setting up Judge's Court and Next Steps.'
About the newly-introduced CHT legal system, the Chief Justice asked the judges of three hill districts of Rangamati, Khagracchari and Bandarban to discharge their responsibilities with utmost sincerity despite inadequate logistic supports.
He said usually the hilly people, who are accustomed to their own century-old traditional legal system, are not used to the constitutional courts to seek remedy.
The judges, lawyers and members of the civil society would have to take the initiative so the litigants come to the courts seeking remedy, he said.
Referring to Article 27 of the Constitution, he said: All citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law.
Presided over by BLAST trustee board member Dr Shamsul Bari, the inaugural session was addressed, among others, by Advocate Idrisur Rahman, Chakma Raza Barrister Debasish Roy and Advocate Jewel Dewan.
