Specify health sector graft, irregularity

Friday, 14 November 2014

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim called upon Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Thursday to specify corruptions in the health sector, reports BSS.
The health minister was addressing a press conference after a meeting related to "eviction of illegal structures, improvement of atmosphere in government hospitals and services" at the conference room of the health ministry.
Nasim said it was important that specific charges be made, otherwise it would not be possible to take action on the basis of sweeping remarks.
The minister said, "I've the guts to face criticism. I will not tolerate irregularity or corruption. But charges have to be specific".
The minister questioned the wisdom of making conclusions on the basis of interviews of only 35 people in a sector where 250,000 people work.
The minister said that there had been substantial improvement in the health sector during their tenure. The rate of child and maternal mortality had decreased significantly. And the UN had recognised it by awarding Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina for it.
Besides, the 13,500 community clinics have also been appreciated, globally.
