Speedy trial for Ctg cases

Sixteen cases filed over violence before and after the January 5 general elections in Chittagong will be handed over to Speedy Trials tribunals. The decision came at a meeting at the Chittagong police headquarters, attended by officers-in-charge (OC) of 16 police stations in the port city and top officials of the city police. 162 cases over violent incidents were filed across Chittagong before and after the Jan 5 polls in 2013-2014. “Of these, 16 important cases will be transferred to Speedy Trials tribunals. This was decided in our meeting held on Sunday,” said Babul Akhter, Additional Deputy Commissioner of  Chittagong police (Detective Branch). Five of these cases were filed with Chittagong’s Kotwali thana, three with Akbarshah thana, two each with Panchlaish, Double Mooring and Pahartoli thanas and one each with Bakolia and Patenga police stations. Chittagong police says 41 cases of violence were filed before and after the Jan 5 polls with the Kotwali police stations – the highest among those in the port city, according to bdnews24.com.
