Spice prices go up ahead of Eid

The prices of onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric and other spices increased by at an average of 25 per cent ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
A survey over a period of 25 days conducted by Consumers' Association of Bangladesh (CAB) revealed the information.
Cardamom weighing 50 gm is now selling at Tk 100 which was sold at Tk 40 earlier.
Clove weighing 100 gm is now selling at Tk 75 against the earlier price of Tk 60 and black pepper at Tk 50 which was Tk 40 a month ago.
Cinnamon is selling at Tk 24 per 100gm, which was Tk 18 a month ago while bay leaf increased to Tk 15 from Tk 10 per 100gm.
Local and imported Indian onion now selling at Tk 55 and Tk 45 per kg respectively were Tk 40 and Tk 28 per kg during the month of Ramadan.
Local onion price increased by 20 per cent, while imported ones by 18.42 per cent.
According to the study, garlic, both local and imported, are now selling at Tk 100 and Tk 110 per kg marking a rise of 37.50 and 53.85 per cent respectively.
The items were sold at Tk 80 and Tk 65 per kg a month ago.
