Spl committee to give reaction on meetings Monday: Suranjit

The parliamentary special committee on constitution amendment will give formal reaction Monday on the outcome of its opinion exchange meetings with political parties, constitutional experts, lawyers, intellectuals and editors, reports UNB.
Special committee co-chairman and spokesman Suranjit Sengupta told this at a press briefing at the media centre of parliament Thursday afternoon.
He said the committee will sit Sunday to review the opinions and suggestions made by different political parties, constitutional experts, civil society members and newspaper editors.
On April 23, the special committee took opinions from constitutional experts and noted lawyers; on April 24 from political parties representing in the parliament including the Jatiya Party, JSD, Workers Party, NAP and Ganotontry Party; while on April 27 from the Awami League (AL).
It took opinions from civil society members on May 3 and finally from the editors of different national dailies on May 4.
The BNP did not join the special committee opinion exchange meeting while the Jama'at-e-Islami was not invited.
The parliamentary special committee formed on July 21 with Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury as chairman last year was assigned to prepare recommendations for amending the constitution.
