Spl tribunal demands for trial of war criminals, ban on politics based on religion

Leaders of Ekatturer Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee and South Asian People's Union against Fundamentalism and Communalism have demanded formation of a special tribunal for the trial of war criminals and ban on politics based on religion and fundamentalism, reports UNB.
In a joint statement, they termed as false, motivated and provocative the remarks by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid that they did not work against the Liberation War in 1971 and his claim that there is no war criminal in the country.
"Such kind of remarks is an attack on the state, spirit and history of the Liberation War as well as the very existence of Bangladesh. His (Mujahid's) remarks tantamount to treason," the statement said.
The statement, released under the signature of Shahriar Kabir, was signed, among others, by Prof Kabir Chowdhury, Hena Das, Justice KM Sobhan, Adv Gaziul Huq, Kalim Sharafi, Ajoy Roy, Maj Gen (retd) CR Dutta, Prof Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir, Barrister Shafiq Ahmed, Kamal Lohani, Prof Hasan Azizul Huq, Quayyum Chowdhury, Syed Shamsul Huq, Prof Anupam Sen, Hashem Khan, Rafiqunabbi, Prof Muntasir Mamun, Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury, Firdousi Priy-obhashini and Muha-mmad Jafar Iqbal.
