Singapore sought establishment of a special economic zone (SEZ) in Bangladesh for the Singaporean investors for boosting investment, reports UNB.
A trade delegation of the Textile and Fashion Federation (TFF) of Singapore placed the plea for establishing the SEZ when they called on Industries Adviser Geetiara Safiya Choudhury at her secretariat office.
"Bangladesh has much potential as a strong economic force in the region," the members of the team said during the meeting.
They noted that various countries have so far made huge investment here, and various organisations of Singapore are also interested to invest here.
The delegation asked for establishing the SEZ at a suitable place for encouraging the Singaporean investors and boosting investment.
Possible sectors of Singaporean investment like - textiles, ICT, jute, furniture and food-processing etc were also mentioned during the discussion.
The delegation informed that they would place a formal proposal soon on their planned investment after discussion with Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) and Board of Investment (BOI).
The industries adviser informed the Singaporeans of the present investment-friendly situation in Bangladesh, and assured them all-out cooperation in establishing the envisaged SEZ for the Singaporean investors.
TFF President Benny Pua led the delegation. Secretary of Textiles and Jute Ministry Abdur Rashid Sarker was also present on the occasion.
