Pak fielding coach Ijaz Ahmed arrested
LAHORE, Mar 27: Police arrested Pakistan fielding coach Ijaz Ahmed Thursday over an alleged land scam. The 40-year-old former Test cricketer is accused of writing checks to two property dealers that bounced and were worth more than $130,000 (10.5 million rupees), according to police officer Rana Abdul Jabbar. "We have arrested him today (Thursday)," Jabbar told The Associated Press. "Ijaz had got bail from the court, but it expired Thursday and we arrested him. Former Pakistan captain Salim Malik, who is Ahmed's brother-in-law, said Ahmed hadn't given any checks. "These are all allegations. In fact, as far as I know, Ijaz is owed this money from these property dealers," Malik told a Pakistan cable station. Ahmed played 60 Tests and scored 3,315 runs before retiring in 2001. — AP
