Spot orders in BATEXPO'10 rise this year

The three-day RMG gala event, Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (BATEXPO) 2010, organised by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters' Association (BGMEA) which concluded Saturday saw a significant rise in the number of spot orders compared to the previous year.
"We have got US$40 million worth of spot orders in BATEXPO 2009 but this year from it will be higher," BGMEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy told the FE Saturday evening.
"We have got good response from a number of buyers from non-traditional countries South Africa, Chile, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong besides traditional countries, which is beyond our expectation."
"This year entrepreneurs have showcased different types of stylish products and backward linkage garment accessories which attracted the local and foreign buyers mostly."
Rajib Sarwar, senior merchandiser of Saad Saan Apparels Ltd, a sister concern of Noman Group said, "We have received spot orders worth US$2.40 million from a Korean company.
"We are expecting more orders after the exposition as around six to seven foreign countries showed their interest to do business with us.
