Spring sets in today

Wednesday, 13 February 2008

The Bangalees celebrate today (Wednesday) Pahela Falgun, the first day of the 11th month of Bangla calendar year, that heralds the advent of the spring in this part of the globe, reports UNB.
People, mostly youngsters, traditionally celebrate the charming occasion wearing colourful dresses, carrying flowers in their hands and singing songs.
In the capital, the Dhaka University and its nearby areas will be the centre of the celebration.
Traditionally, people of the country wait eagerly all the year for the spring with new hopes and aspirations.
Spring is the most attractive season when nature wears a new look with trees having fresh leaves and people heaving a sigh of relief with the departure of winter.
The celebration will be followed by the Valentine's Day, the next day (Thursday), which is an occasion for sharing love.
The Dhaka University authorities have chalked out a two-day Basanta Utsav programme, Wednesday and Thursday, at the TSC marking the advent of the spring.
The programme, including songs, discussion and plays, will begin at 11:30am and continue till 5pm everyday. Popular singers will also render songs at the programme.
