Spurious spices seized in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Nov 10: The police on Tuesday night seized about three tonnes of adulterated spice and detained eight employees of two spice mills in the city.
Metropolitan police said, acting on a tip off two teams headed by AC (Kotwali) Shahnewaz Khaled raided Aziz Spice Mill at Bakalia and Matin's mill at Khatunganj Tuesday midnight.
They seized about 3000 kg spurious spice, different ingredients and chemicals, powdered coarse rice, poultry feed and colours used as mixture with turmeric and spice in damp places near the Chaktai Canal.
The police teams detained Neel Mia, Shafiqul Islam, Ziaur Rahman, Khalil Mia, Abdul Motaleb, Odud Mia, Faruk and Abul Hashem, all employees of the two factories. A magistrate's court sent them to Chittagong central jail.
Spices and ingredients were burnt to ashes, police added.
