Condemned war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was found a little bit anxious after hearing the Appellate Division verdict upholding the death penalty awarded to him by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 for war crimes. Jailer of Dhaka Central Jail-2 in Kashimpur, Gazipur, Faridur Rahman Rubel said the former minister and BNP lawmaker first heard the verdict through radio. Later, jail super Subrata Kumar and the jailer went to the condemned cell of part-1 of the jail around 10:55am and informed SQ Chowdhury of the news of verdict broadcast by the media. The BNP leader seemed a little bit nervous after hearing the judgment, the jail sources said, adding that he is now normal. SQ Chowdhury did not express his reaction to the verdict, the jailer said, adding that he told them that he would file a review petition once he receives the copy of the full verdict. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, on Wednesday morning upheld his capital punishment pronounced by the ICT-1 about two years ago, according to a news agency.
