Senior BNP leader Saluddin Quader Chowdhury has appealed to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) to acquit him of charges of crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 liberation war, reports bdnews24.com.
His counsel Mohammad Badiuzzaman submitted a petition in this regard, tribunal registrar Mohammad Shahinul Islam told the news agency.
Meanwhile, another lawyer, H M Ahsanul Haque, has appealed to the tribunal for the power of attorney of Salauddin to argue on behalf of the BNP leader.
Shahinul said Ahsanul filed a petition for withdrawal of the tribunal order to appoint Badiuzzaman for conducting the case in favour of Salauddin. In the second petition, he sought all files and documents in the case.
In a third petition, Ahsanul requested to defer the hearing on framing of charges against Salauddin Quader, scheduled to begin on January 15.
