BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury will file petition to Supreme Court (SC) for reviewing its verdict that backed capital punishment to him for war crimes. A four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, on Wednesday upheld SQ Chowdhury’s death sentence for committing crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971. Immediately after the top appeal court pronounced its judgment on petition filed by SQ Chowdhury, defence lawyer Khandakar Mahbub Hossain said: “We will file review petition after getting a copy of the Appellate Division’s verdict. We hope SQ Chowdhury will be acquitted from the charges.” On October 1, Justice ATM Fazle Kabir led three member of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 condemned Salauddin Quader Chowdhury to death, finding him guilty of nine charges out of 23 allegations levelled against him, according to a news agency.
