Square Pharma approves 50pc cash, 50pc stock dividends

Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd (SPL) has approved 50 per cent cash dividend and 50 per cent stock dividend (bonus share) for its shareholders for the year ended on March 31, 2007.
The dividends were approved in its 41st annual general meeting (AGM), held in the city Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by SPL Chairman Samson H Chowdhury. The company's Independent Director M Sekander Ali, directors Kazi Harunar Rashid, Samuel S Chowdhury, Ratna Patra, Kazi lqbal Harun and KM Saiful Islam, Director (A and F) Md Kabir Reza and Company Secretary Khandaker Habibuzzaman also attended the meeting.
It was disclosed in the meeting that the pharmaceutical sector attained 4.08 per cent growth during 2006 as against 17.50 per cent during the previous year. However, SPL attained 23.17 per cent growth during 2006 as against 14.30 per cent during the previous year.
The company's sales turnover increased to Tk 8,711 million from Tk 7,085 million of the previous year, marking an increase of 22.94 per cent. Its gross profit, net profit (BT) and net profit (AT) were Tk 3,232 million, Tk 1,722 million and Tk 1,303 million, which are 26.04 per cent, 12.38 per cent and 11.78 per cent higher than those of the previous year.
Besides, the overall combined output (tablets and capsules) of SPL's Pabna unit and Dhaka unit increased due to increase of capacity utilisation by 113 per cent (tablets) and 160 per cent (capsules) comparing to 101 per cent and 146 per cent of the previous year. During the year under review, the company's exports amounted to Tk 192.95 million as against Tk 114.77 million of the previous year, marking a 68.1 per cent increase.
