Stalemate at KU continues

Wednesday, 16 June 2010

KHULNA, June 15 (UNB): Stalemate at Khulna University (KU) continued Tuesday, the third day of reopening of the university, as the students continued their agitation programme on the campus.
The authorities reopened the university Sunday after one and half months of closure.
But the students boycotted their classes on the day demanding exemption of punishment to 34 students.
A total of 42 students launched Monday an indefinite hunger strike at the main gate of KU to press home their demand.
Students said that they would continue their class boycott and hunger strike programmes until their demand was met.
The KU was closed sine die on April 6 to avoid an on-going campus violence. During the temporary closure, the authorities expelled four students permanently and expelled 30 others on different terms, which angered the students.
Police have been deployed on the campus to maintain law and order.
