FE Report
The staff of Standard Chartered Bangladesh participated in the 'Last Hour Campaign' which was launched by the banking group across its markets.
'Last Hour' was a voluntary campaign where the staff donated their last hour's worth of salary in 2009 to 'Seeing is Believing (SIB)', a sustainability initiative that helps restore sights.
The bank will also provide a donation matching the fund raised.
The staff of the bank who participated in the campaign would be automatically registered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to watch the play of Liverpool Football Club in the next season.
'Seeing is Believing' was launched in 2003 as a staff initiative to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Standard Chartered Bank.
The fourth phase of 'Seeing is Believing' - a new vision -- aims at raising $20 million to develop comprehensive, sustainable eye care for 20 million people in less advantaged areas of 20 cities across the world, including Dhaka.
Under this project, Standard Chartered has committed $1 million between 2008 and 2012 to Dhaka Urban Comprehensive Eye Care Project that will serve over 270,000 visually impaired people.
Dhaka Urban Comprehensive Eye Care (DUCEC) Project seeks to build the capacity of four partner hospitals to provide services to some of the poorest people living in Dhaka.
The project aims to combat key conditions such as cataract, refractive error (long or short sightedness) and low vision.
Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Head of Corporate Affairs of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, "Standard Chartered is committed to building a sustainable environment for our businesses, our customers, and our communities. We encourage and support our employees to regularly participate in volunteering activities and in ongoing donation programmes."
'If you can see in the New Year, help someone who can't' this was the spirit of giving that is prevailing within Standard Chartered bank throughout the month of December 2009.
