Standing crops on vast tracts of land damaged by cyclone

SATKHIRA, Nov 21 (UNB): Standing crops on vast tracts of land were damaged extensively by the recent devastating cyclone in the district causing huge loss to the farmers.
Sources said the small and marginal farmers are worst affected and passing their days in great despair.
Local Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said among 1.58 lakh hectares of land brought under aman cultivation in all the nine upazilas, aman paddy on 42,600 hectares were damaged due to the violent storm.
Besides, vegetables on 1,665 hectares of land, mustard seeds on 892 hectares, boro seedbeds on seven hectares, jujube on 120 hectares, banana on 50 hectares, papaya on 27 hectares and betel leaf on 60 hectares were also destroyed by the cyclone.
