FE Report
Oxfam, an international non-government organization, has called upon the authorities to start negotiations on international migration with the western countries as a large number of people in Bangladesh will be displaced following global climate change, says a press release.
The call was made at a briefing on 'Climate change, loss of livelihoods and forced displacement in Bangladesh' organized by Center for Global Change (CGC), the campaign partner of Oxfam, at the National Press Club recently.
A research report presented by Executive Director of CGC Dr. Ahsanuddin Ahmed revealed that early 60,000 people will be displaced due to river erosion, more than 10,000-15,000 due to salinity and 30,000 for water logging each year.
The report also predicted that about 0.1- 0.12 million people in the coastal areas will be compelled to leave their dwellings due to tidal waves, cyclones and other natural calamities once every 3-5 years.
