State-owned industrial units asked to make profit

CHITTAGONG, Apr 29 (UNB): Industries Minister Dilip Barua has said the state-owned industrial units would have to prove operational efficiency to survive in the competitive market.
"The state-owned industrial units will have to make profit by competing with private-sector units," he said at a meeting with the senior officials of General Electric Manufacturing Company Ltd (GEMCL) here Friday.
The GEMCL is a state-owned enterprise under Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC).
GEMCL Managing Director Dilip Hawladar, Additional Chief Engineer M Elias, Assistant Chief Accounts Officer Anwarul Islam and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
The minister said in the present global perspective, it is not the government's task to do business but to give policy support to help flourishing the private sector.
