State-run jute mills mark good growth in July-Aug

The state-run jute mills have recently achieved tremendous growth in production, export and income thanks to the increase in number of new machines and reopening of closed mills, official sources said.
The total income during July-August period this year was nearly Tk 2.77 billion by exporting 37,438 tonnes of jute products while income during the same period last year was over Tk 1.97 billion by exporting 36,919 tonnes of jute items.
Thus there has been a 1.41 per cent growth in export and 40.14 per cent growth in income compared to previous year.
In July-August period this year the state-run mills sold 8,258 tonnes of jute products in local market and earned Tk 866 million whereas total earning in the same period last year was Tk 357.30 million by selling 4,074 tonnes of products.
Thus the total income increased by 142.37 per cent and sales by 102.70 per cent compared to previous year.
The total production in July-August period last year was 45,382 tonnes whereas production in the same period this year was 52,187 tonnes, marking a 14.99 per cent growth.
Purchase of raw jute also increased by 96.51 per cent compared to last year.
The growth of manpower in July-August period this year also increased by 27.75 per cent compared to previous year while permanent manpower increased by 8.92 per cent and transferable manpower by 49.88 per cent.
The number of machines in July-August period last year was 5,337 and this year the number of machines is 6,467 and there has been a 21.17 per cent increase.
