State seeks stay on HC order on prisoners in condemned cell

The state has filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking stay on a High Court verdict that declared death row convicts cannot be confined in condemned cell before attaining finality of their sentence by the latest judicial and administrative forums.
Attorney General A M Aminuddin told the reporters that they filed the appeal petition on Tuesday.
He said, "We will file regular appeal after publication of the full verdict of the case. Now we have filed a petition seeking stay on the directions of the verdict, otherwise problems may arise. Chamber Court of the Appellate Division of the SC may hold hearing on the petition on Wednesday."
The HC on Monday issued a direction that death row convicts cannot be confined in the death cell or condemned cell before attaining finality of their sentence by the latest judicial and administrative forums.
