Status of device preventing vehicles coming from wrong direction

Monday, 11 August 2014

Travelling in the wrong/opposite direction has become a common practice for many people in Dhaka. This is one of the major traffic rule violation that occurs in Dhaka during peak hours. This not only worsens traffic congestion but poses a serious safety threat to the road users as well. Also it carries a wrong message to law abiding citizens. To prevent this from happening, a few months ago a traffic device was installed near Kakrail to prevent vehicles coming from the wrong direction.
This type of traffic device is used in many cities across the world too to prevent wrong way traffic. While inaugurating the device, the police informed that gradually this device would be installed in other parts of the capital. The city residents applauded this initiative but within a few days of installation the device started to become dysfunctional as it started to break apart. Now nothing is known about the status of this traffic device. Would it be repaired, modified and installed again, or have the police abandoned the idea of using the device. Abandoning the measure would be a great disappointment since it was an effective way to prevent traffic rule violators.
