RAJSHAHI, Oct 20: Stealing of sleepers and other equipment from the Rajshahi-Ishwardi rail track has become rampant.
The costly machinery include metallic pedal clip, dog spike, bearing plate, hook bold, nuts and screws which is essential for smooth running of trains and regular maintenance of the rail tracks.
Due to uncontrolled stealing of such parts, train movement on Rajshahi-Ishwardi route becomes very risky.
According to the sources, most of the passenger and goods-laden trains of the northern zone run on these tracks.
Thieves remove those machinery and parts easily as those are small in size. These are later sold to the scrap shops.
Sometimes police arrest some of them but within a few days they somehow gain their freedom and return to their nefarious trade.
